What is TEC?.

Telecom Product or network which will be interfaced with Indian Telecom network need TEC Registration / Certification. TEC Certificate is delivered by the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC India), Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India to any original equipment manufacturer/importer who wants to sell, use, or import telecom equipment in India.

Groups and Schemes in TEC.

Groups

According to the time and complexity involved in testing the equipment or evaluating test reports, the equipment’s are divided into three Groups: Group A, Group B and Group C.

Schemes

Below are the 2 types of certification schemes:

  • Simplified Certification Scheme (SCS)

SCS is applicable for Group A equipment.

Applicant has to submit Self-Declaration of Conformity (SDoC) and a test wise compliance sheet, in respect of parameters included in ERs under this scheme.

 

  • General Certification Scheme (GCS)

GCS is applicable for Group A, Group B and Group C equipment.

Applicant has to submit test reports and test wise compliance reports, in respect of parameters included in Essential Requirements (ERs), from any designated Conformance Assessment Body (CAB).

 

Mandatory Product List Under TEC.

List of mandatory products that needs TEC certification:

  • Two Wire Telephone Equipment (SCS)
  • Group 3 Fax Machine (SCS)
  • Data Modem (connectable on 2-wire Analog Line) (SCS)
  • Cord Less Telephone (GCS)
  • PON Family of Broadband Equipments (ONT, ONU, OLT)
  • Feedback Devices (IoT) with Cellular Connectivity
  • Transmission Terminal Equipments (SDH Equipment, Multiplexing Equipment)
  • ISDN Customer Premises Equipment (SCS)
  • PABX (GCS)

Documents / Technical Details Required for TEC Certification.

  1. Address proof of the Manufacturing Unit
  • Copy of factory license mentioning the relevant product as the scope of manufacturing and indicating the address of manufacturing unit
  1. Trademark Details
  • Copy of Trademark (Brand) Registration
  • If manufacturing unit is not the owner of trademark, you would need to get authority letter from trademark owner
  1. Technical Details about the Product
  • Product name, Brand name and Model number
  • BoM (Bill of Material)
  • Copy of marking label
  • Safety critical components list
  • PCB layout and circuit diagram of the product
  • Main’s power / SMPS Layout and circuit diagram
  • Details of series models, if any – please refer the series guideline
  • Sample(s) along with user manual and accessories to run the product
  • OEM support to configure the product for functional testing, if required
  1. Additional Technical Details (in case of Cell / Battery)
  • ISO 9001 certificate
  • UN 38.3 test report (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) for lithium-ion cells and batteries
